Is there anyone out there that can give me a little guidance on RN-BSN programs in Puerto Rico?? There are several Universities there from what I see online. My husband and I plan to move there at the end of the year when I finish my RN.
I plan on taking a trip to P.R. in March for the sole purpose of going in to see the schools and speak to an program advisor. When I did a web search I was a little overwhelmed with the results. I figured this might be a good way to get started.
I would appreciate any feedback, pointers, advice, weblinks, and anything else that would help me narrow my focus.
Do they have english-speaking programs available? Which schools do any of you have experience with?
Is there a minimum amount of time required for me to work as an RN before I apply to a program?
What was the average tuition cost?
What was you experience there as a student, etc??
I have course credits aside from those required for the ADN degree. For example: Statistics, Developemental Psych., Sociology of the Family.... Would that alow me to complete the RN-BSN quicker?
By the way, I am Puerto-Rican american, so I do speak spanish, but I am interested in taking the course in English. Also, we will be buying a house, so I have housing covered.
GRACIAS :)

Hi!
I am a BSN student in the Virgin Islands (U.S.) from what I understand the schools in PR do not prepare you for NCLEX. You can sit for it after graduating from UPR but you wont have done 1000's of NCLEX style questions the way we do over here. I've heard good things about the program in PR and they do some of their clinicals in the VA hospital which is a plus. Rent is cheap in PR but unemployment is high and nurse salary in PR is EXTREMELY low.
