I will tell you what NOT to double up on: if possible, avoid taking other classes when taking HIST 1311/1312. The history classes are not special condensed versions of history for the RN-BSN students, but are the FULL semester courses crammed into 8 weeks. So every week, you're essentially doing double the work of a regular college course. There's tons of weekly readings and assignments, tests every other week and 4 projects (1 group) all due. It's a lot of work--you could easily spend 15-20 hours/week or more on that course alone. Please keep that in mind.
I took 1311 with nursing courses and while working...it was very difficult at times--I felt like when I wasn't at work, I was chained to my computer or textbook--but I did manage. When it came to 1312, I decided to let the nursing class go and just take the history course, and I was glad I did. Still felt chained to the computer/textbook, but at least I felt like I could catch my breath.
So if you can, take 1311 and 1312 alone. If you can't or don't want to take it alone, take it with one of the easier nursing/prereq courses. Don't even think of taking 1311 and 1312 at the same time--even the history department will warn you against doing this.
Hope this helps.
One other piece of advice...be sure to register for the pre-req/general ed courses at the start of each semester, even if you aren't taking the course until the second 8 weeks. Unlike the 5-week nursing courses which pretty much have rolling registration, you can only register for non-nursing courses at the start of the semester...and if you miss the registration window, you are out of luck.
Ask me how I know. I could have graduated in January had I known this, but instead I missed the chance to take Texas Government and that threw my whole course map WAY off Now I'm looking at July...probably September.

Hi Vizzle, when were you accepted to the SON? I'm anxiously awaiting a response for fall 2013 and just curious, did you start just this spring or last fall? And I agree with Meriwhen that the history classes were time consuming (and boring). I took them with micro and patho (sequentially) and history took much more of my time.
