I am considering a career change to nursing (I've been a teacher since August and have already decided to leave the public school system at the end of the year) and am also very keen to settle in the UK in a few years. The cheapest way to become registered is to do an ASN program and then do an RN to BSN program online while I work as an RN (I know I need that year experience as well). My question is whether this would work under the new NMC rules. It says a three year program... this would be three years altogether and I would have a BSN at the end of it. I just didn't know if anyone has had any experience with accelerated programs since 2014. Everything I've been able to find on this site about it has been prior to the changes. I would meet the categories classes need to cover as well as the 500 clinical hours. Overall, I'd actually have close to 900 hours. I'm just worried about the three year program bit. I already have a Bachelor's degree so it doesn't make sense to do a traditional four year program unless I absolutely have to. I also wonder if maybe doing an RN to MSN program may be better. I just want to get to the UK as soon as I can! :)

NMC will based their decision on whatever information you provide in your application and the hours that are shown in your transcripts. They are a bit flexible in the hours but ideally are looking at hours that are similar to what a UK nurse would do. At one time the UK would not accept accelerated programs but I have seen some members a few years post they was able to go through the process and meet requirements with accelerated program. With the NMC the process is a long drawn out one and who knows what will be happening with the NMC in a few years time
Thank you SilverDragon! It would be three years full time of nursing classes. I added up all the clinical hours and it met the requirement and the class time would be equal to what a US nurse does at least. If I get through with everything and they don't accept it, I suppose I could do the MSN program then to add more hours. Your response was super helpful! :)
