RN to BSN or MSN to FNP?

I know this question has probably been asked several times but I really couldnt find anything to answer it. I have been a RN for over 12 yrs and I want to go back to school to be a FNP. I have my ADN so I know I have alot of school in front of me. I just cant figure out the best way to go about it. I will have to do online and cont to work. So, my question is what do you all recommend? Should I go RN to BSN and then enroll in a MSN with a FNP degree or should I go RN to MSN and then do a post masters in FNP. What would be ideal would be RN to MSN with a FNP option but I have not been able to find that online. Actually one was Gracelands but they require alot of clinicals for the BSN and the MSN. Okay, I have researched this quite a bit and Im at a loss, hopefully someone can give some advice, thanks in advance.

I think the RN to MSN is a waste of time, because you'll be spending about an extra year on part of an MSN that you'll never use. You need to hunt around for an ADN - MSN-NP program! I wish I could help ya there, but that's the most efficient way to get to where you want to be.

I agree I think RN-MSN would be a waste of time and I have heard you end up having to take almost as many classes already having a MSN as you would if you just had RN. Im not sure on this but thats what I have heard. I would definitely do the ADN-RN then RN-FNP. I think in the end it would be less schooling and you would not waste your time in pointless MSN classes that won't help much.

Thanks, I have decided to try and get into the Frontier RN to MSN with the FNP track. Should take me about 3 yrs. It is 11 hours from Oklahoma but I will just have to fly to Kentucky for the campus trips and I have to wait until Aug to enroll but from what I read on here it will be worth it. So, hopefully I will be able to get into that class and I will just have to be patient!

Hi, I'm going to complete my RN-BSN online with Ohio Univ then apply to the NP program in my state, which is also on line. Let us know what you find out about other options. I think it is wise to complete the BSN if you can do so quickly. I have a lot of my requirements out of the way since I have a prior BS in another field. Good luck!
