RMN to USA = ?

Published

Hi I am new here so this question has probably been asked a thousand times before but what do I need to do to translate my RMN so I can do Mental Health Nursing in Michigan - I married a US citizen and came here fom the UK in December 2004. Your advice would be welcome as I have been unable to get any help from colleges or anywhere else for that matter

Unfortunately no. The US government requires that the nurse be a generalist for licensure, not a specialist. And since you are in Michigan, you will also be reuqired to write the CGFNS exam. They will not give approval either without the needed classes...............Michigan requres that all foreign trained nurses take CGFNS, unless they have laready worked in the US as an RN for five years.

They used to offer a program that would give you the additional courses in the UK, but it is not available there any more. Yuo are going to need to make up the hours in clinical and theory for pediatrics/OB/ and adult medicine.

Please do a search on this board under the UK forum and you will find many threads already on this.

Hope that this helps..............you will find more info to help you on the UK forum as well as the International forum.

Please let us know if you have anymore questions........... :)

Thanks for your response - as I need to get working I have decided to do CNA training and if after that I have time to expand myself I will try doing so online but it seems the only way into the field so thanks again and I will check out the UK forum. :coollook:
