Right or Wrong?!?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I worked in this place where there were many CNA's and Nurses on one wing. Of course most were women and it seemed like they never got along. I remember this nurse who seemed to show favortism to some CNA's and pick on others. It's kind of hard to explain but she would let some go on breaks and others not. She would go out and smoke with them 10 times a shift, and it made me gag when they all walked in. She would yell at the same CNA's everyday for not plugging in nebs but if one of her CNA's forgot she would just blow it off. The CNA's would also treat the CNA's with disrespect and talk bad about other nurses to this nurse. I was just wanting everyone to get along or hold their tongue until they are off shift. She would also let some CNA's touch feeding poles and set them and I know that isn't right. I reported it, I know CNA's aren't suppose to be touching that stuff because they could seriously mess up a persons feeding. I didn't want anyone starving!!! I didn't know if I was right for reporting it at the time because they DON didn't act like it was a big deal and I never heard anything about it afterwards. Was I wrong? I honestly don't think I was but if you could voice your opinion via my thread then thank you!!!

I was in a similar situation when I first started as a PCT. I worked on a med/surg floor and certains nurses would tell us to do things we knew we weren't allowed to do (start/stop IV's, feeding tubes, etc.) I did tell my nurse manager, for the simple fact that if I screwed up I wanted to know who would be liable?? I didn't want to get sued. She quickly told me that we were NOT allowed to do that, it was outside our scope of practice. She took all of us (PCT's) off of the floor for a week, I guess to make a point.

The drama and favorite cna thing, I think that happens at a lot of places and I dont know if I would have told on them for just that. Just my opinion.

This was a pediatric unit so I didn't know if there were different rules but I now know it's illegal to mess with feeding poles if you aren't a nurse. The blind leading the blind! And yes it is full of drama. I am just glad I stayed out of it. Thanks for you opinion!!!:)
