Ridiculous Prereqs!

Published

I have a problem: I'm applying to Masters Entry Level programs, and the problem is they all have different prerequisites! I understand Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, and Chemistry. I even understand introductory Psychology and Sociology, but written communication? Bioethics? EIGHT units of chemistry??? What in the world am I supposed to do, take tons of random classes just in case I happen to get into that particular school? Is anyone else in the same boat?

I should also mention that I refuse to apply to community colleges because all they look at is three core science classes and your TEAS test score.... and I refuse to take that test. Sorry, but I don't remember Geometry and Algebra, and am not planning on retaking those classes too! I've taken Statistics and Pre-Calculus, and the Pre-Calculus was three years ago, so I don't remember any of it!!! Grrr......I'm so frustrated!!! :banghead:

Mr Simba, I felt the same exat way and even posted here about it. I do feel your frustration. My strategy is to take the basic prereqs that are central to pretty much all of the nursing programs (A&P I and II, micro and chem) and then start applying. From the literature I've read from different nursing programs, several of them will accept you if you have only some of the prereqs done at the time of application, primarily the core sciences, maths, etc. Then they only require that you finish up the other prereqs before the program starts, and in some cases you even have until the end of your first semester to finish up. Good luck!

I have this frustration right now too...I'm a bio major, so most of them are already done (except Anatomy/Phys 1 and 2)...but some of the schools I find amusing (8 credits of "Religious Studies" was my favorite so far). Annoying, but I'm picking a few programs that I'm mostly done prereqs at and hoping something comes through!

"...but some of the schools I find amusing (8 credits of "Religious Studies" was my favorite so far)..."

Seriously! My favorites have been the religious studies and the PE classes! And one of the schools required the religion classes to be taken at their school! Ummm.....no thanks! I took a ton of religious studies classes as an undergrad and loved them, but now I want to take nursing (or at least pre-nursing) classes! And shouldn't I be taking something related to nursing, say, Pathophysiology or Pharmacology? So random!!! :heartbeat

And P.E. as part of a nursing school's curriculum? Doesn't running around the hospital for several hours getting medications, blankets, ice chips, IV supplies, etc. count as exercise? No? Well, I think it should! :chuckle
