Hello. I am a PN student and I am scheduled to begin the nursing program in the Fall. I usually wear contacts, but I have been wearing my glasses for about three months (ran out of contacts and prescription had expired, BOOOO!). I have an eye appointment on Monday and I was planning to get more contacts, but I was thinking maybe I should wear glasses to clinical. I am a little germaphobic (don't know if micro will help or hurt that LOL)and I'd like to be protected as much as possible without being completely ridiculous. I was thinking about getting these prescription safety glasses and wearing them constantly (at clinical, not at home:D). This way I would always be wearing safety glasses without it looking quite so obvious. Do you think this is a good idea or just silly, uneducated paranoia?

Thanks for you time.:)

IMHO...if you are doing ANYTHING that might 'splash' up into your eyes and be infection worthy... you should wear goggles anyways. Esp w/ bladder irrigations (you will learn)..they always seem to splash when you don't want them to.
But I would stick with contacts...when you are in a 'contact precaution room' and you are all gowned and gloved, is always when....your nose itches, you drop your stethescope, and your glasses want to fall off your face into a pt's giant icky abd wound.
Go with the contacts! lol
Thanks. I never thought about them falling off. Ha ha ha, but knowing me, it would happen. I went with contacts. The doctor was pushing lasik to me. I never considered it seriously before (Really? Electively putting a laser beam on my eyeball? Pass! LOL), but thinking about your post made me get a flyer!

Most hospitals provide a standard surgical mask with a face guard if you are going to be dealing with a situation that may result in splash back.
