Review of Hondros College of Nursing Cleveland Campus CLE

Published

This is a review of Hondros College of Nursing (Cleveland Campus). I've heard from students at the other campuses and they state that they do not have the same issues that we have here in Cleveland.

I started the process of my education here almost 2 1/2 years ago. I completed my LPN program, and once I finished that I immediately started the LPN to RN bridge program. I am a licensed PN, and passed my NCLEX without issue. If you put in the effort to learn, you will learn what you need to be successful. That being said, for the money, the experience should be drastically different.

As of today, you can look at the total cost of completing the LPN program and the following LPN-RN bridge program to exceed $50,000, and tuition is always increasing. For example, when I first started the program Hondros Alumni could enroll into the RN-BSN program for $170 per credit hour, today that same program costs $230 a credit hour for alumni. That is an increase of 35 percent in only 2.5 years.

If you care about the quality of your clinical sites, the reputation of your school, quality of your practical lab time, etc... avoid this campus at all costs.

First: Clinical sites

LPN clinicals are only in nursing homes. If they tell you that they have a clinical at the VA hospital, they are being misleading. The clinicals at the VA hospital are in the long term care home attached to the hospital itself. For the record, there are schools in the CLE area that have LPN clinicals in the same place Hondros has their RN sites. The most prevalent RN clinical sites are Grace Hospital locations throughout CLE that are attached to bigger REAL hospitals. These are basically nursing homes with higher acuity patients. On top of that they have extreme difficulty in keeping their census up, so you will probably run into a situation where there are only 8 patients on the floor, 3 Grace nurses, and 8-10 students. I'm quite sure that you can figure out the problem with that. Keep in mind that most of those patients are either there long term or repeatedly come back after the nursing home they were discharged to realized they can't care for them.

Many of RN clinical sites are still NURSING HOMES. It is actually possible to complete the entire RN program without ever having set foot in an actual hospital.

Second: Reputation of the school

This one rests mostly on the students of the school. Many of the "students" that attend this campus are extremely unprofessional in their conduct in all situations. Yelling and cussing at a professor during lecture? I've seen it. Engrossed in facebook status updates so deeply at a clinical site that the DON of the facility you were at walked up and stood there for 3 minutes before finally pulling your attention away from your scrolling news feed? I've seen it. I said this should mostly rest on the shoulders of students because it is an enabling administration that allows this behavior to take place. They allow these idiots to get away with this behavior.

If you just want to get something done fast, are capable of teaching yourself course material at times, don't care about clinical experiences, or the reputation your school carries on your resume....then attend this campus. If not, go to another school in the CLE area or attend one of the other Hondros campuses.

WOW and I was looking into this school, coming from Michigan. Thanks for the heads up!

I graduated from Hondros (Fairborn location) in 2015 and I did the LPN to RN bridge. We never did clinicals in a nursing home. I went to the VA, Grandview, Southview Hospital and did my preceptor-ship at Highland District Hospital in Hillsboro. I got exposed to all areas of the hospital and got to watch all kinds of procedures. Maybe it varies from campus. No regrets going here :)
