So i retook my NCLEX today, the first attempt i ran out of time and did not pass. I got up this morning and went and took the test, i got there early so i could review over my notes and then walked in telling my self i was going to pass. I sat down for the exam and just started answering questions not spending too much time on them. IT CUT OFF AT 75!!!!! so because i am a retaker i decided to try to PVT i got the good pop (last time i did it it went straight to the cc) but that has done nothing to relieve my anxiety.
My issue is the questions were nothing like the first one... i mean they were very basic and i know the number of SATA questions you get dose not mean anything. i had 12 SATA, 1 exhibit, 2 dose. My last exam was full of different style questions. I just felt like the questions were BASIC knowledge to me. i feel like i failed (i know everyone does at this point) but really i feel like i didnt pass because the questions to me seem on the knowledge level.
What i did to study this time was just uworld and kaplan. i did 75 questions from each and reviewed the rationals. the day before i got a massage and watched netflix all day then took my test. i also reviewed the 35 page study guide. Im not sure if i failed or passed. i feel terrible and i feel like the questions were not on the right level to deserve a good pop up. so at this point i either did really good or failed terrible.

Hey:)
I did my nclex exam this AM (1st attempt) and feel horrible. I had soo many SATA and Pharm qns ...most of which I was unsure of. I am positive I failed. How soon can I try the PVT? I am assuming that PVT means to reregister for the exam?? I tried to do that and put my visa info in and pressed submit it said I just recently scheduled for the exam so cannot reregister.
"they" say its best to try after 24 hours is when its been graded twice. but that is the good pop up.

It's safe to say that nearly everyone (ok, everyone NORMAL, lol) feels like they failed the exam.
An exam that ends at the minimum number of questions indicates that you did very well and could demonstrate competency quickly....or...you did very poorly and could demonstrate Incompetence very quickly. If you think about how you prepared for the test, etc.....which scenario is more likely?
There's really nothing "on the fence" about 75 questions. It's a clear pass or a clear fail.
Doing the PVT immediately, however, tells you absolutely nothing. BECAUSE you got 75 questions, it is in all probability going to be the same result if you did it immediately following the exam or the recommended 24 hours later.
WHY do we keep saying to wait 24 hours before playing the PVT game? Because every NCLEX undergoes a QA review at some unknown point in the 24 hours following each exam. ALL of them. Your test cuts off where it does because the CAT has determined to a 95% CI that you passed (or failed). HOWEVER, whenever there is anything other than the minimum, the QA review sometimes DOES repeal the prior scoring....."flip" it.
For everyone in that situation, all you know when you do the PVT immediately following the exam (or an hour later, ten, doesn't matter) is that your first scoring had you at XX result. Except, however, when the PVT itself acts like a Magic 8 Ball and doesn't do what you expect it would, and gives you a result you deem "wrong". Charging you when you passed, doing a 'card declined' when you passed, etc. Or, for others, getting the "good pop up" but actually failing.
The more frequently you do the PVT, the greater your likelihood that at some point, PV will just go ahead and charge you. If you put in valid card info, you lose $200 (non-refundable, don't even waste time asking for it back). If you put in invalid info, you get a 'card declined' message that means nothing either.
Pay the $8 for Quick Results and be done with it, if it's an option in your State
Good luck! :)
Thanks for the response. we do have quick results so i will get them sun morning. i can see the pvt going either way if you scoreed more then the minimum. i guess im just on the fence because i think they are going to check it the second time and be like nope... plus as a retaker lots of anxiety!!! i also start my new job monday and i want it to be a staff nurse not a cct.
The anxiety is completely understandable. But no....you either definitely passed, or definitely failed. And the likelihood of you completely bombing out the second time is just not high enough to panic over :)
Meantime, get out of the house (or away from your iPhone!!) and do something fun: meet a friend for food, take the dog for a walk. Buy yourself something shiny. Use the time and pent up energy cleaning out your closet of stuff you don't wear and put together a donations box. Clear crap out of your pantry. Anything to get your mind off this for awhile!

How did the UWorld questions compare to the NCLEX and did UWorld help?
JpGasmin, i would honestly have to say that UWorld was good practice i had 1 question that was very close to uwolrd on my test. Every question i was asked this time was just like kaplan for me. now i would say if i had taken uworld before on my first attempt then that would have helped me. my first attempt had more difficult questions then this one. I recommend doing both uworld and kaplan qbanks, for my second attempt it was all kaplan.
Just got my results this AM. I PASSED!!! Am so grateful. Thank you to everyone especially those who shared their study prep materials. Got 75qns. Lots of SATA and Medications. AM Licensed in the state of California. An hour ago got a call from a recruiter. Will get back to me in 48hrs to inform if I have an interview or not.FIngers crossed:))))))
