(Sorry if this is in the wrong area to post.. I'm new to this and still finding my way around. I posted in MA becasue I currently live here).
Hello! Here are my problems/questions/concerns:
I already have a BS degree (Environmental Studies) and have previously taken Statistics, Chemistry I w/ Lab, Chemistry II w/ Lab and Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and Mammalian Physiology (both were semester long courses with labs). I'm retaking these classes now for different reasons but ultimately the goal is the same- to come out with A's in the classes and get into an accelerated BSN program.
My concern is that retaking all of these classes will look bad to some admission counselors. I didn't do poorly in most of the classes (see reasons for retakes below) but I don't know if retaking so many is a bad thing or not? My overall GPA is ~2.9 (this is averaging classes in I've taken since graduating) so I am retaking classes to make sure my pre-req GPA is high (because my cum GPA is not so good..), none will be "expired" and to be refreshed of the material.
Also, I took all my initial classes at a 4 year college. The retakes are now at my local community college.
My first time taking Statistics I got a C. I retook this is a 5 week accelerated course and got an A.
I retook this class for 1 reason: To increase the grade
My first time taking Chem 1 I got a B-. I retook this and got an A- in lecture and an A in lab (the community college separates the grades for whatever reason..)
- I retook this class for 2 reasons: To increase the grade and because this class was taken in Fall 2004, so for some schools it is "expired."
I am currently enrolled in a 5 week accelerated course for Chemistry II. I'm hoping for an A to replace my initial grade of a C.
- I am retaking this class for 2 reasons: To increase the grade and because this class was taken in Spring 2005, so for some schools it is "expired."
I will be taking Anatomy and Physiology I and II next semester (Fall 2010) in an accelerated format. AP I for seven weeks and AP I the following seven weeks.
- I am taking these classes for 2 reasons: To increase the grade and because some schools will not accept my Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy and Mammalian Physiology courses as AP I and II (even though my initial courses were 400 level courses of which I received a B in each course!)
I will have a good pre-req GPA in the end.. but my overall is poor, I know. But this is because I failed calculus twice and received a C is Stats (now have an A), Chem II (hoping for an A), Psychology, and Cell Biology. All my other classes are B's or better and other pre-reqs that may be required for nursing (Nutrition, Sociology, Genetics, Develop Psy) I have As in (and a B in Microbiology- which is at a 400 level).
But back to the original question/concern: Do you think admissions counselors will not like my retaking of so many classes- even though some being retaken were good grades to begin with?
Thank you for taking the time to read this!

I am not a college admissions person, but to me, it seems you are doing the right thing. And some of the local community colleges in mass require that your A&P grade be five years from when you graduate. I would recommend speaking to a counselor at you current school to be sure you are on the right path, it seems good to me. Good luck!
