It will really depend on the competitiveness of the school, how high your entrance exam score was, and if there are any other application requirements that carry placement weight. If you have a low teas/hesi/net or whatever score, then that B could make a difference. But if you have a moderate, or even a high entrances score, then that B will likely not matter. THe only time I could see it making a difference is if there are over 100 applicants for 25 spots who all have a 4.0. Unlikely but possible. Also check the schools retake grade replacement policy. Many schools only replace the grade if you fail. Many will add both grade to your GPA for the same course, or will keep the original. If your school will replace non failing grades, thats cool, but its still unlikely to matter. Check with your state board for what previous students admitted to the nursing program at your school had for GPA and entrance exam. THat should give you a good indicator if your B is going to matter or not.
I wouldn't retake a B if you have all A and a B. A question that i would ask is how competitive is your schools program and whats your gpa. I I have A and B and still have a 3.68 so I can only imagine what all A and 1 B could be. I would say if you feel confident in your grades then go ahead to A&P 2. . Good Luck hun
If all of your prerequisites are all A's and that single B and your overall GPA is very good, I wouldn't bother retaking the course to get an A grade out of it. It's also quite possible that your school may not allow you to take the class again because your grade isn't "low" like "C" or lower and you'd then be effectively "forced" to take an equivalent course at another college or another college district just to be able to substitute the "new" grade for the "old" one that is still quite good.
There is kind of an unspoken rule that you should get near a 4.0 GPA on your prerequisites or at least As in your two most important classes: Physiology and Anatomy. HOWEVER if anatomy was your only B, I think you would be fine to be honest.[/quote']I got Cs in all my pre-req courses except one. I hated them. Despite this, i had no problems passing my nursing classes or the nclex with very little studying all the way through bc I was actually interested. Grades in pre-reqs do not necessarily determine your future of nursing.
If you are close to finishing your pre-requisite courses and have all A's, then you have more than 50 credits and your GPA is probably higher than 3.9?
I've actually seen both sides of the fence. I was not accepted, and I had a 3.94 GPA. Yet, I know a student with a 3.82 GPA, and she was accepted. So there are other factors that they look at.
You might inquire and ask how many applications they are getting each year. Our school was getting 1400 applications for those 60 seats each year. Competition was very heavy, and I felt compelled to get and keep straight A's.
I'm not so sure that you'd get a full and complete answer by contacting the director(s) who run the nursing program. I attended an orientation that they put on, and the top man actually said they only looked for C's and above. Yet those of us in the know understood that you really needed to strive for straight A's, and get as close to a 4.0 as possible.

I am one class away from finishing my pre-req's for nursing school at my college and I made one B, and that was in Anatomy 1. I've made A's in ever other class besides that one. My adviser told me to retake Anatomy 1 and strive for an A in the class. I don't really understand why, I feel as if my grades are good enough. I don't feel as if one B in Anatomy 1 with knock me out of getting accepted to nursing school. Has anyone been accepted with a B or even less? Any thoughts?
