My kid told me her current Anatomy grade is C and she is thinking about retaking it at CSULB. This is her last pre-req semester btw. We are also thinking of applying to Community Colleges as well which might be easier than CSUs to get in. Her current GPA is 3.4+ so with the C it can hurt. She can also take anatomy at another community college but transcripts might look a little funny.
Right now in progress she has 2 As(stats and another class) and one C (anatomy). Eventually this will make her science GPA 3 (2 Bs, 1 A, 1 C) for pre-nursing. it looks like community colleges than CSUs now seem to be the likely option due to the current GPA.
According to CSULB, they don't advise retaking a science class.
3. Students will still be allowed to repeat a failed class for grade forgiveness as stated in the CSULB Repetition of Courses Policy.
Pre-nursing students should note that withdrawing or repeating courses to improve their grades or GPA will result in a
failure to meet the Academic Progress Rules and will likely make pre-nursing students ineligible for admission to Nursing.
4. Students should not be advised to fail or withdraw from a class if they are earning a "C" so they can repeat it for a better grade.
Students repeating classes take seats away from other students attempting to get in a class for the first time and results in
poor academic progress. A grade of "C" will not disqualify a student from the Nursing program as long as both the prerequisite
GE and Science GPA is 3.0 or higher.
Any advise? Thx

My niece was at csulb as a pre nursing major and I believe she also got a C in anatomy. she ended up just changing her major because the likelihood of her getting in to their program was quite low with that C...
She switched to healthcare administration and graduated with that. Initially she planned on attempting the 2 year school route to get in but I'm no longer sure if she's willing to do that for her own reasons.
Even with that C a lot of 2 yr programs could be a potential option (if your child can get their BA Or BS in another degree field)
Hi ShannonKelly,
We decided to drop/withdraw and retake anatomy somewhere else (easier) like CC at least that is the plan. Her overall GPA and good and we will apply to other CSUs (including CSULB), local good (ADN)CCs for Spring BSN entry. We feel comfortable that she can get either 2-yr route or BSN somewhere. Now she is collecting all her Anatomy material to study in Summer. Actually we was doing well with lecture but the last lab (muscle I believe) brought her grade down. Her instructor has background in micro and it seems like her instruction might not be as good including how tough the lab grading is, not giving partial credits, as most of the students drop out last week.
