Hi, I am in school for nursing and we are supposed to research about the roles and responsibilities of the school nurse and wanted to go straight to the source to see what you all have to say ? This is for a community health class. Below are some questions. Feel free to answer one or all. Anything is greatly appreciated.
1.) Describe the nurse’s role in the community and give examples of what he/she does on a daily basis. Real-life examples should be included whenever appropriate.
2.) Identify how and who the nurse(s) would work with for coordination of services to provide a comprehensive health program in the community.
3.)How would the nurse utilize a population-based approach in his or her role?
4.)Does this role include assessment and screening of individuals, families, or groups? If yes, please include examples.
5.)What health education responsibilities does the nurse have in the community?
6.)Does this nurse work with a vulnerable population? If so describe.
7.)Describe an ethical dilemma that this nurse has faced and describe how you would have handle that situation.
8.)How important would record keeping and documentation, including computerization be for a nurse in this role?
Thank you,
Brooke

Hi Brooke,
I highly recommend you reach out to your local school communities and see if you can actually interview someone over the phone/zoom. Looking at these questions, I could write a short book to answer some of them if I was just typing out an answer. I think a back/forth discussion would be more beneficial to your view of Community Health. We're a friendly bunch who love to talk about what we do since it seems the majority of people have a very skewed view of our role. You should be able to find someone willing to chat easily. ?
