Hello there! I have a few questions and it would be wonderful if one of you MICU nurses could help me out.
What would you say is the main role and responsibility of a nurse in your unit?
How do you usually conduct your assessments? I'd assume it's done in a more thorough way than on a med-surg floor.
How would you maintain a patient's care after they leave the MICU? Referrals?
Thank you! :heartbeat

Complete head to toe assessment, qhour vitals, give meds, titration of drips, vent management, etc... Its going to vary depending on the MICU and the patients. A pt on CVVHD, vent, and vasopressors is going to need totally different care and interventions than a ETOH withdrawal in 4pt restraints on an Ativan drip or an ARDS pt on a rotoprone bed.
There is a huge number of various, diverse responsibilities for an MICU nurse. Once that pt is transferred out of ICU - your care generally stops and goes to the next ICU pt rolling through the door.
