With any good fortune, I should be starting a BSN program in January. I will be 35 when that starts and 36 when I would graduate. My husband has been/currently is in the AF and I work for AF now so I am pretty familiar with the way of life. I want to join as soon as I graduate but am not sure if I want to go AD or Reserves. Well, I want AD but our kids will be in high school and I would rather not move them at this time. So my question is, is it easy or even possible to start out in the Reserves and then switch to AD later? I know this is difficult, if not impossible for most enlisted positions but I was wondering how it worked for nurses??
TIA :)

Yes it is possible to start out in the Reserves and then put your packet in for Active Duty. If you get accepted and take the oath as a Commissioned Officer in the Reserves of your choosing, then half the battle is won if and when you decide to go AD.
Thanks for the quick reply!!! That is good to hear. I am really hoping that is how it will work for me. I wasn't specific enough in my original post, but I am looking at mainly the AF. Although, before I get going I will explore all of the opportunities in all the branches.

I'm also considering going into the AF reserves. I graduate LVN school this week, and will be starting RN next summer.
