I was a patient in the ICU. A vasopressor drip was initiated and a CVC placed. The ICU RN failed to move the pressor to the CVC. The peripheral IV infiltrated with the pressor drip still infusing. The infiltration was discovered by my friend who is also a RN. She informed the ICU RN of the infiltration and her initial response was 'it's not infiltrated.' After some convincing, the ICU RN checked the IV to find it was infiltrated. She removed the IV and set up. She did nothing further...no documentation...no aftercare for the infiltration, etc. The area became necrotic several days later. I still have a scar and neuropathy over a year later. The hospital is aware but seemingly unimpressed. Would you report her to the BON? I am more concerned with her callous attutude but her initial oversight of not moving the drip to the central line is pretty egregious. I'm torn as to how to proceed. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.
