Renton Technical College ADN program

Published

Hello all,

I haven't seen much forums about RTC so here I decided to make one. If anyone can provide any information about the nursing program at RTC that would be awesome! I am a bit concerned though.. I looked up the nclex pass rates and it was 64%. Any input would be helpful. Thankyou

I'm currently an RTC nursing student (going into 3rd quarter)! Woo! There are a lot of changes going on at RTC. The NCLEX pass rates reflect when the program was a lottery-based system, but the current staff and admin have since changed the entry to a competitive, points-based system. The program is state conditionally approved and is working towards getting their national accreditation. What I'm understanding is that coming from RTC as a nurse graduate, I will be able to apply to most RN-BSN programs in the area that are nationally accredited. So even though RTC isn't nationally accredited currently, I will still be able to attend a BSN program and get that national accreditation since most nurses are being steered towards their BSN anyway.

Every program has their +/-, but I have a feeling that our cohort and the cohort that is currently heading into their 5th quarter, will be able to substantially improve the NCLEX pass rates.

Are you considering applying to the RTC program?

Wow that's awesome! I am planning to apply to RTC along with other schools. But RTC is my first choice due to it being so close to where I live and therefore it will be super convenient to me. I'm planning to take my last prerequisite (psych 200) at BC and apply for the fall quarter at RTC.

How has the program been so far? Is the coursework really that intense like what everyone says? I finished most of the major bulk of my application and it seems that they only accept one place for work and volunteer hours..

Gosh I really hope I get in.. Their application opens around July and I'm already getting anxiety.

Hi there!

I just got my acceptance letter to start at RTC this fall. I was wondering how the program is going currently? Megan did you end up getting in? We may be starting together! :)

Also, I have checked with the UW RN-BSN program and they do accept Renton Tech nurse graduates!

Hi jv1990,

I didn't get in due to my B- in 2 of my classes.. I am planning to retake those classes this fall. Do you mind me asking what grades you got on your prerequisites to get in?

jv1990, the program is definitely tough, but aren't all nursing school programs? I have friends going to different programs and have talked to nurses that I work with/precept with at school and every school has their ups and downs. Some quarters will be more difficult than others. Find some friends that you work well with and stay focused- that's my best advise for you. If you feel like you're struggling, definitely ask your instructor. I'll be starting 5th quarter in Fall so if you need to chat or anything about school, you can PM me :)

Megansd, sorry to hear that you didn't get in! If you are still interested in going to RTC, I would suggest e-mailing the associate dean, Vicky Hertig, or the nursing advisor... and ask what you can change in your application to have a better chance of getting into the program. I wish you luck!

Megansd, darn! Well, keep at it! I had to retake Chemistry do to a low B. For A&P I had higher B's, Stats 4.0, Chem 2nd time around I got a 3.5, Psych 100 & 200 I got 3.3 & 4.0. Good luck next time around and hope to see you in Spring quarter!

Studentnurse_08, thank you for your input:) I was really concerned about the conditional approval. Have they said anything about that while you were in the program? Thanks so much!

Yeah that's been a huge concern for every cohort but what we've been told is that the school is working on it. There steps that have to be taken before the school can get fully accredited, but they're in the process of doing that. And that had to happen before the school can even apply for national accreditation. I think one of the last things they're waiting for is the current 6th quarter students NCLEX results but I'm not 100% sure. Dr. Hertig can explain it more thoroughly if you have concerns! I'm sure you'll hear more once you start classes in September though! Congrats on your acceptance!

Thank you so much!
