Remedial Courses before applying? (TX)

Published

Hello guys, I'm a new grad working in Houston. I was wondering if anyone applied to ANP school around the area, specifically UTHouston, and was ALLOWED to take remedial courses. I worked a lot in nursing school with a mediocre cumulative GPA, and I just want to prove that I'm serious about my career. Killing the GRE before summer is my goal, and taking upper level courses this fall is the next step. Do you think taking upper level science courses will help polish my resume a bit?

I think it depends on how competative entry into your school of choice is. I'd think well over half of applicants don't have a stellar GPA from undergrad. However, they (like me!) make it up after graduation by excelling as nurses, killing the GRE, interviewing well, writing a great "why I want to go to grad school" paper, getting people to write you references, etc etc. I would talk to your school or some NP students and find out what they consider in an applicant before putting more money into school.
