Has anyone had to take a remedial course for rn? If you have please let me know what course you took, the cost, and was it helpful in passing the board. It has to be Illinois state approve. Thanks to anyone that can help me.

Do you mean a refresher for someone who has been out of practice, or a board-prep course for someone who has had difficulty in passing boards?
A friend of mine failed boards 3 times, which meant that she had to present evidence of additional education before she could try a fourth time. (I don't know if that is still the requirement in IL or not.) She went back to the university from which she had graduated (and gotten good grades, by the way) and requested their help. She reasoned that she had not been well prepared by their curriculum if she could make As and Bs in nursing school and still not pass boards. As it turned out, her school had a relatively poor pass rate on boards, so she was not the only one. Apparently they agreed to provide her with some additional schooling, although I don't know what it entailed.
Good luck!
Thanks for replying. I really don't know what a remedial course is but I know it's different from a refresher course because they told me that I can't take a refresher course. Since it's hard to contact the IDPR I emailed them asking what is a remedial course is they told me "A remedial course is designed to remediate graduate nurses who fail to pass the examination within three years. A Current Nursing Practice Update Course is designed to prepare nurses for re-entering the profession after being out of practice for over five years." I'm still confuse from what this says. Do I have to take a full rn course again or if I can just take a review course to help me pass the board. I still don't know. That's why I want to know if anyone is in the same boat as me.
OK, now I think I know what you mean. A refresher is meant for licensed RNs who have been away from clinical practice for an extended period of time. To take a refresher, one must have an active license.
I assume that you have taken and failed boards a number of times, and now must present evidence of continued education before taking them again. I don't know of any organizations that offer this type of course. It is not the same as the typical board-review course that some new grads take prior to sitting for NCLEX. I would suggest contacting the Dean of the school from which you graduated and start there. Did you go to school in IL?

I've just found out about a course at South Suburban College, South Holland that offers a course for nursing graduates who have never passed the boards. It's only offered around the first of the year and it's divided into two sections - classroom for 4 or 6 wks and then clinicals for 8 or 12 wks. Hope that helps.
