Relocation

Nurses Career Support

Published

Hi all! I’m relocating to Charlotte, NC. I’m from Georgia so I’ll have to transfer my license over. My question is this: should I apply before I transfer my license, or should I wait until all paperwork is done then apply? Also any Charlotte area nurses let me know which hospital is “better” I’m an ER nurse at a level 3 hospital currently. But have 2 years level 1 EMS background prior to nursing school.

Does your GA license provide multi-state privileges? If so, when you relocate and apply for licensure in NC, you will be allowed to work with your GA license throughout the application process. When your NC license is issued, it should grant multi-state privileges and your GA license will be inactivated as you can only hold one multi-state license.

If your GA license is a single-state license you can apply for your NC license now. As you apply for licensure by endorsement, rather than "transfer" you GA license, this has no effect on you GA license.

Best wishes.
