relocating question

U.S.A. Louisiana

Thinking about moving to the South. I currently live in Il. I have been a psych nurse for 5 years. Are there any psych hospitals down there? Can anyone tell me what the pay is for RNs?

Specializes in Trauma ICU, Emergency Dept., Home Health.

You will find an over abundant amount of psych facilities in Louisiana. Not sure where you plan on moving to but most facilities are pretty evenly spaced across Louisiana. Dealing with LSBN will be the biggest issue. They have no professionalism and enjoy making things difficult for nurses coming from out of state. As for pay, it depends on where you locate. Bigger cities pay more and the smaller towns pay less. Good luck!

You should be able to find a position in a psych hospital pretty easy with 5 years experience. I am almost done with clinicals here in shreveport and Brentwood hospital is one of the largest in the south if you want to continue psych mental health. Shreveport is a great place, has places to shop/play, dallas is 3 hrs to the west, new orleans is five hours south. nice central location with lots of good churches. if you have kids, bossier city (it is on the east side of the river but is part of the "metropolis") seems to have better schools, or so I have been told. there are lots of jobs available in psych, not as many in icu settings especially with as many nursing schools around this area

Hi.I just moved in Lafayette,LA from IL. I have hard time finding a job here.I'm a new grad but it might be easier for you to find a job because you have an experience already...Good luck!
