Relocating to Los Angeles

U.S.A. California

Published

Hi everyone,

I recently passed my boards for my RN and I am relocating to California. I am not a new grad...I actually got done with nursing school 5 yrs ago. took the boards twice and failed it . The third time I was determined not to fail...and I didnt. I passed in Dec 2004...a lot of studying and review courses...but I did it!!! Anyway....I am not familiar with California.. I just wanted to know what the starting salary is in Los Angeles hospitals...what hospital is a good place to start my experience in and finally...a good place to live with my daughter..what part of LA is a decent area to raise my daughter. Am I asking too many questions? I am an LPN with 51/2 yrs in ob/gyn/med-surg and in same day surgery? What are my options...somebody help me!!

Los Angeles is a wonderful place to be a nurse! I would personally like to recommend UCLA medical center. They are ranked third in the nation and I believe they start off at 25.36 an hour. From my personal experience there, the nurses were friendly and the facility is up to date. I think a good place to stay would be Culver City or Santa Monica. Both are very close to the hospital. Good luck!

I agree UCLA is a great hospital!

Santa Monica and the Westwood area is pretty expensive to live since it is so close to the hospital/college.....but Culver City or Marina Del Rey wouldn't be as bad.

You could also check into Ceders-Sinai, they have new grad programs and I believe their starting rate is a couple dollars/hr more than UCLA. They are probably about 15 min to UCLA so both hospitals are pretty close to one another.

Good luck!
