Religion, Politics, and Nursing

Published

Several articles and posts recently have gone the path of people's religious or political beliefs. I'm starting a thread here for the ability to continue those conversations without detracting from the OPs threads while allowing us to talk civilly about how our beliefs effect us.

For those who don't know, I identify as Christian, but strongly believe the best way to be a asset to my faith is to set a kind and loving example to others, to be good and to be happy. I'm not prefect at it, but I try. I work to accept people as they are, because no one is perfect.

I've often had issues within the Christian culture because I'm divorced, bi romantic, and a moderate liberal. I'm also tattooed and have interesting percings which I hide at school.

Thanks for sharing! There certainly has been a big debate happening!

I'm non religious, but am somewhat spiritual. I believe that people should be treated kindly and everyone deserves dignity. No one is better than another, and certianly no one is perfect. Live and let live! If what another person does has no bearing on you or your quality of life, then you have no right to comment.

My political stance might be different because I livi in Australia, but I am pro-union and very Labor orientated. With that said, most pollies out there speak crap anyway so I take what they say with a grain of salt!

Cheers,

How do you know when a politician is lying?

That said, I like Bernie Sanders here, but don't see him going anywhere.

It's part of their job description, isn't it? Actions also speak louder than words, and going by history all of them make promises to get/stay elected and then pull the pin on it once they're in power. I mean right now, I think all of Australia is ashamed of our PM (even the people who voted him in), simply because the ridiculousness of him, and he can't rule a herd of sheep let alone a country! Haha.

Who is this Bernie Sanders bloke? I've seen on the news Bush's brother is running as well as Clinton - both of them seem to be nig news here. Don't know much about either, but I sure hope Bush is smarter and more articulate than his brother.

See, that's where Bernie is different than most. Most don't think he'll get elected because of the fact he's a self proclaimed democratic socialist. He's flat out admitted to trying to make the US more like Scandinavia. In realistic terms he'd likely be labor party himself if we really had it.

Sanders is a no name Independent in his seventies, an independent from Vermont. He normally caucuses with the Democrats and for the presidential primaries is running as a Democrat. He's refused to take money from what he calls "the billionaire class. " most of his talk points center on making things better for the average Joe. I personally like him because he's not afraid of standing up and saying stuff that others wont since he doesn't have as many corporate sponsors to peeve. Sadly, due partly to his age, partly to his image (he's looks more like the goofy uncle than a politician), and lack of big money, he seems like a long shot.

Damn ageism! He sounds like a great candidate. I like a pollie who isn't afraid to be a bit left of centre! How I wish that these people who make sense would get into power... But even when a good egg does lead, people forget that some things can't change overnight and begin to criticise them no matter how good they are.

...and I just want to give my deepest condolences and sympathies to all of the families involved in the South Carolina massacre. What sad, sad news
