Rejected after 8 years of working for the company

Sad and embarracing to admit, but It just happened last friday. Manager said I need to find a different enviroment where I would be a better fit. Friends recommend start looking for a job agressively and I feel so defeated. How do you find courage and strength, not to mention another job, after you had been let go? What do you say on the interview when they ask what happened? I almost don't want to be a nurse anymore as I feel so unappreciated..

[COLOR=#003366]FMF Corpsman, I didnt have the same manager throughout my employment. During my work as a CNA i had managers changing twice on me, when I became an RN a year after I started my manager got fired so new one took over (the one that fired me). She wasnt new but new to the unit. I really dont know who was hired for my position, would be curious to find out though. I also dont think I would want to sue this company, main reason I wouldnt want to be rehired there for obvious reasons. ChicagoRN is right, focus on positive, prepare to move on

NurseDirtyBird, or anyone who was in my situation, who found a job at the end. How do you get references, after you was let go? I feel like noone now wants to talk to me at my previous place. I guess they afraid to get fired too or I dont know. The only recommendation letter I got was from my manager but it sounds more like an explanation of why i was let go and that they strongly believe I will be very successful in new enviroment. Should I even give that letter to potential employer?

Am I reading this right? Your 8 years of experience was as a CNA, not as an RN ... right? They didn't exactly fire you as a CNA, they just didn't accept you as an RN ... or you didn't succeed during your probationary period as an RN ... is that the case?

If that's the case, then that's what you emphasize in your new job hunt. Say that you were happy to work there as a CNA, but that it is not a good fit for you now that you have become an RN. Say that you are looking for new opportunities now that you are an RN.

I wouldn't say that this happens at my hospital "all the time," but it does happen. Having worked successfully as a CNA in a particular place does not guarantee that you will meet there needs as an RN.

IIg, As CNA 5 years, RN almost 2 years. Before CNA i was a groundskeeper for a year :)

Is there anyone who will give you a reference?? Verbally or written. Written is better. Charge nurse, supervisor, even a former manager Someone who will describe your strengths.. Ie good attitude, team player, takes care of difficult patients etc as well as can describe your skills. A lot of getting a newJob is timing..

Psychncs, thank you for ideas, I am finding people, they just taking their time. I just found out another person was let go yesterday from my company and noone knows why
