Rehab or Psych

Hi All,

I am new to allnurses and figured you guys could help me out.

I am a BSN Rn with one year of experience mixed in inpatient psych and LTC. I really dislike the LTC and do not get benefits where I am working now. I left the psych hospital because we had no DON and was asked to do some questionable things while working there. I currently have two job offers. One is at a TCU on the shift I like with less pay, but great benefits. The other is at a psych hospital that is also less pay and decent benefits but an hour away. I am still unsure of where I want to go in nursing and am not sure which position would be more beneficial to my career in the long run. I know its near impossible to get out of psych once your in it and I am not completely sure that is what I want to be doing for the rest of my life. What do you guys think?

Thank you!

Do you genuinely like psych nursing? If so, select the psych job offer. Nurses who truly enjoy psych don't give a rat's behind if they never get another job outside of psych because they are where they want to be.

Do you like bedside care and procedural skills better than psych? If so, select the TCU job offer, because you'll be rendering plenty of bedside care and performing many procedural skills in that type of environment.

Thank you for your response. I really do enjoy psych as of right now. I currently hate my LTC job because of the task oriented care. I love just sitting and talking with my residents much more than getting UAs and changing catheters.

I am meeting with the DON of the psych hospital again today to discuss my options
