Hello,
My name is Ashley and I am in need of some help, input, advice, etc. I have been a RN in a long term care/ rehab facility or skilled nursing facility and am looking to change nursing careers. I have been working in this facility since a new grad and will have 3 years under my belt this coming September. I am currently still working on obtaining my BSN. I want to continue working 12 hour shift and transition into the hospital. Current openings in my area include the ER and Telemetry units. I do not have a preference or a string desire to work in a specific field, however I am ready to leave long term care. I want to learn more and advance my skill set as a nurse, but I begin to stress and worry that I will hate changing jobs. I find myself having extreme anxiety and worry I would not do well in the ER or Tele. I am an extremely hard working and willing to do what it takes to learn and be a better nurse, but I do know some nursing careers are not for everyone. I don't feel like I have found my "nursing niche" yet and at one point I did want to be a pediatric nurse. For those who left long term care and anyone that may help guide me I would appreciate it so much.

I was an LPN for 17 years before becoming an RN. Most of of my LPN years was in LTC. I found it difficult to find work as an RN in the hospital. I ended up applying and getting an ER position at a rural hospital. I absolutely loved it! The teamwork is amazing, lots of orientation, and the doctors/providers are right there in case you have a question about something. I would recommend the ER for those reasons. Good luck to you!
