Recommendation for On-line PhD in Nursing Education

I wouldn't recommend a 100% online program to begin with. (and I don't say that to be snarky or anything).

If you have no programs near where you live and are not willing to move ... I recommend you look for a program that provides most of its basic coursework online, but still includes some extended visits to campus to interact with faculty and fellow students face-to-face for part of the program. PhD level education should be a whole different level than MSN and the face-to-face format helps you get to the deeper level of work that should be expected.

I also recommend you start your search by looking at the major state universities in your state (for cost-effectiveness). Also look at private institutions in your state/region and other schools where it would be easy for you to go their for visits with faculty. For example, places where you could drive to easily ... places where you have family you could stay with for free ... etc.

Check out all of those schools first. Look for high quality at a reasonable price. Look for a place with faculty whose research interests fit well with your own. Avoid any for-profit. If you find that a really large school may be the best fit financially and academically -- find a way to stay close to the professors so that you don't get lost in the shuffle -- because professors won't be seeing you regularly like they will be seeing the on-campus students.

That should give you some ideas to get you started.

UNLV is a PHD program. You would pay an online tuition rate, and they have nflp to cover tuition costs. Only 50 hours total if your MSN is in nursing education.

If you are not as interested in learning how to research, University of West GA has an EdD in nursing education. It is inexpensive and haa a good rep.

Touro University Nevada has a DNP focus in Nursing Education Leadership. 10o% online and VERY reasonable tuition. You might also look at University of Southern Indiana.

Hi meanmaryjean - I know that you graduated from Touro University Nevada (TUN) with a DNP in Nsg Education. I am very interested in pursuing a DNP in education as well. I am, however, confused by the curriculum change that they implemented in March of 2016, as it appears that TUN does not award the DNP in Nsg Education any longer. Is that correct? I would be very bummed if that is the case.

In looking through their curriculum, I don't see courses that specifically spell out a focus in Nsg Education. Do you have any insight into this observation?

DNP Admission

The program is still admitting students to three cohorts/ year. I'm not sure if maybe you were looking at their prelicensure program, or perhaps another campus.

I do see that the curriculum has been revamped. However, you might want to call and speak with someone. The DNP program I completed was Nursing Educational LEADERSHIP- so I doubt it it much changed in focus.
