I have been told by my upper administration to instruct my staff and biomed to remove the UF setting from our Cobes during recirc in order to cut saline use/cost. We have also cut all our machine heparins out to save cost there. We use the Optiflux F160NR and I am unable to find anything in the manufactor insert related to this with exception to priming etc. Nothing related to UF in off during recirc. Any info would be appreciated. I'm told other clinics recirc with uf off without issue but this is also not in our general policy and procedure. I am concerned with the safety as we do dump our prime until the blood hits the venous side approximately 200cc but of course this is well after recirc with uf on of usually 500cc pulled off. This wont be once we stop UF. Is this enough to rid the risk of reaction (I have had pts have anaphlaxis to dry packs at my previous clinic)and ensure sufficent wetting of the fibers? Help as I'm supposed to initiate this immediately. Essentially we will be recircing the prime only, dumping 200cc then putting the pt on?
