Hello Everyone,

I received great news. After failing out of nursing program, I was allowed back in contingently as long as I challenge all successfully completed nursing courses. I would like to know if any of you think this is right?

In our program you can retake the failed semester once and you have to pay for it on your own. How far along are you into the program? I'm not sure what you mean by challenge completed courses? Do you have to take a test on prior material? Sorry wish I could be of more help.

Yes, that's the same policy of my school. I had exhausted both opportunities, but unbeknownst to me, I was quite ill which explained why I just couldn't "get myself together" during my final shot. They indeed want me to test on all prior material, as well as skills practicals. If I fail anyone, I have to begin again. Thanks so much for answering back.

Depending on how long you have been out of the program, requiring you to challenge courses completed a year or two prior seems like a fair deal as most schools would not readmit you even in extenuating circumstances if you failed your second chance. The school has a responsibility to ensure that you are entering at the proper level as skills and knowledge not used are often lost. Therefore they need to know that you meet the standard for reentry rather than starting over. Even a semester off can cause a regression in skills if those skills are not practiced.

Good luck and hopefully you can pass this challenge and continue where you left off.

I appreciate the words of wisdom and encouragement, thank you!!

How many courses would you need to challenge, and how long have you been out of the program? Also, how were your grades before you became ill? These are key factors here.

Also, how do you plan to prepare for these challenges, and what do they involve? A written, clinical and skills?

While many people on this site can encourage you and tell you that you can do it, you need to be realistic about whether or not you can.

I would have to challenge 5 courses as well as all nursing skills that accompanied the NUR Courses..I have been out of school for 18 months. I've decided to just retake the courses as the thought of having to stress and go crazy for the challenge exams just isn't worth it to me. Thanks for your insight, I appreciate it!

Sounds like a good idea :)
