Nursing Students Student Assist

Published

Hi, my name is Melanie. I was recently accepted into the LPN program here in MO. I start in August....any advice??

Specializes in Med/Surg, Dialysis.

I am in my 2nd semester of an ADN program to get my RN.

Advice...

Get ready, things move fast, but it's good! It's stressful at times, but stay organized and on top of everything, and you will be fine. Before I started the program I paid off my car, less bills so I only have to work part-time. Work as little as you can. You may not spend a lot of time in class or clinicals but the outside work is heavy. I study everyday, sometimes only a 1/2 hr, sometimes 2-3 hrs broken up into different time periods.

Get a decent steth, I like my littman lightweight, it's light around your neck and the cheapest of the littmans and I can hear great out of it, it's around $50-60.

I have a planner that I look at daily. I put everything in it.

Get a good pair of sneakers/shoes for clinicals, your feet will hurt otherwise.

I do my best to take good notes in class, always go to class, it's so important because everything moves so fast. You will be amazed at what you will learn in a short period of time.

Get motivated, you need motivation to get through it, it will keep you going. Always look at the end result-a great career helping people!!

Nursing is a great field, I love it! I couldn't have made a better decision! I can't wait to be a nurse!

Good luck! You will do great!
