Recent DV arrest and NP clinicals

Nurses Criminal

Published

I was recently arrested for domestic violence. No charges were filed. I am an RN pursuing an NP degree. I searched the board of nursing in my state (WA), and it doesn't appear that I have to report an arrest with no conviction. However, I am worried how it may affect my clinical placement. I will be consulting a license defense attorney, but I would appreciate a good advice.

What ended up happening? Were you able to do clinicals?

Specializes in ICU, travel.

Absolutely consult with an attorney.

On a typical background report, an arrest record will be included.  It's my understanding that a conviction cannot be expunged in WA, but an arrest record can be.  Regarding your clinical placement, it depends whether or not you have people who can think critically or not regarding placement.  You might get placed anyway.

I know a guy who has his CRNA who spent a night in jail for punching a cop, before he even applied to CRNA school.  He's fine and working now.  Anecdotal evidence, different state, but the laws have a degree of flexibility for these situations.
