Nov 9, 201411 yr I'd love go reply to Spidey's Mom, but I can't, because I'm on the mobile website, so anyone that wants to know what I'm replying to will just need to go back to her post. Like notifications have always been optional. I'm not talking about email notifications. I have never gotten those, nor would ever want those. I'm talking about the red bar at the top telling you which posts have been liked. I used to love that and it used to be elegantly integrated into the mobile site. It's gone now.
Nov 9, 201411 yr Admin if you are a non paying member, that lapse causes higher add exposure.Well, considering that those ads are what keeps the site free to those members who don't want to/can't afford to financially support the site. A necessary evil, and I find the ads here (when using a computer where I am not signed in and do not have the perks of paid membership) less intrusive than ads on many other sites that pop up every few seconds.

It's gone now.You are absolutely correct! Alerts are missing on phone UI. This is an oversight which will be fixed within the next 2 days. Thank you for reporting.
Nov 9, 201411 yr Apparently the quote function won't be addressed? I've seen both other users and AN staff direct people to use the quote function in order to keep it clear to whom one is responding. Exactly how are we to comply with that request if the functionality doesn't exist anymore?

It's gone now.On my iPad, if I have notifications, a little red square appears next to my username at the top of the page.
Nov 9, 201411 yr I don't understand what the quote problem is. I never had a quote button on my phone or iPad. All I have to do is tap the post I want to quote and it brings up a blue bar allowing me to quote, thank, share or whatever.

You even did it with your previous post.)The problem with this -1- the reply will get lost because the person being responded to will not get a notification.2- the "conversationality" will be lost because anyone wanting to know what is being responded to will have to scroll back (sometimes pages worth of posts) to figure out what specific comment prompted the response.I'm glad quote still exists on the app. I like that feature. It's really not an eye sore to read long posts or replies.

It's gone now.Well I'll be darned . . . . I never even noticed that. As to quoting someone - if I do that I try to shorten the message to just the issue I'm addressing. I can see both sides though - the phone is small and it would be hard to scroll down a long quoted message to a reply. However, if you haven't been following the thread, it can be hard to find the post someone is quoting. Sometimes (rarely) I've seen people put the person's "name" and the post # so at least we have a way to find it more quickly. I don't use my phone for the internet so never look at AN on a phone. In fact, I had to be dragged kicking and screaming last Monday to AT&T to buy a new phone (a smart phone) when my dog chewed up my old phone (a "dumb" phone?). I'm only going to use it as a "dumb phone" though. And I hate that it is bigger than the old phone that fit into the palm of my hand and my pocket. As a hospice nurse who is in private homes - I need my phone handy but on vibrate. I've found as I bend over or sit down, the smart phone pushes up out of my pocket. Phones are more like mini-tablets . . . .But that's another subject . . . . I only look at AN on my laptop.
Nov 9, 201411 yr Moderator If I really need to quote someone for a reply, I request the desktop view in my phone browser and use the quote button that way.
Nov 9, 201411 yr Ixchel explained the issues with lack of quoting perfectly. I'd rather have to scroll and be able to follow a thread than have no idea who is addressing whom. Scrolling through a long thread is also easier than requesting the desktop site just to type a reply. People who are adept as message board use will cut quotes to only the relevant portions. This lack of functionality will seriously decrease my participation here.
