I am on my first assignment in a rural area just outside of Las Vegas, NV. I am still a baby nurse, just 12 months experience under my belt, but I already landed my first travel gig and I am never shy to ask questions or ask for help.
I see people talking about saving receipts for tax audits. I have always done my own taxes and come from a family where we always got money back and never had to pay out so all of this is new to me. I will most likely be getting help to do my taxes this year as I see it is getting pretty complicated. What receipts should I be saving? I am already on assignment but I am only 3 weeks in so I still have a while here to collect receipts. Also how do you store all those receipts? Is there an app you prefer? I have use android on my phone.

If you go to the TravelTax site, he has some downloadable organizer so you know what receipts are important. Professional costs such as licenses and scrubs and such are just the same as staff (if you itemize your return). If you don't have a tax home, you don't need to save any receipts. If you have a tax home, TravelTax recommends you keep rent receipts (your housing stipend may be higher, but the difference is not taxable).
Read up on tax homes now before you start! Very important. TravelTax or PanTravelers will be very informative.
