Reading portion of TEAS V

My lowest score on TEAS V was the reading portion. I received a 63% on the passage comprehension, but an 87% on the other section of the reading--that's like reading maps, index, etc.

What are osme ways you tried understanding the reading portion? I have a difficult time finding the MAIN idea, topics, themes, etc. I have the McGraw Hill and ATI, but I still have a tough time breaking down the main ideas and comprehension. Is there any way any of you studied for it or practiced? do you feel it has helped?

I also had trouble deciphering what was what, I found it helpful to go through the questions I got wrong and look over each answer choice and figure out why they are wrong and not right. By being able to know why each answer choice is wrong or right helps you establish your understanding of knowing which is which.

Do you have any SAT prep material? It might help you further understand how to break down main ideas. I thought the ATI pretty much covered what you need to know, but I bought the "SAT prep book for subject test: literature" in addition (just in case). It has a lot of practice exams in there that might help you just get comfortable with test questions, but I think ATI pretty much breaks down what you need to know for the test.

When I was studying for the exam, I just went over all the questions again and figure out why I got it wrong or right (that'll help you comprehend what the questions are asking). Sometimes when you take practice exams or the actual exam, you get nervous and you read through quickly and give the wrong answer.

Best bet is to try and slow it down a bit. It's better to understand it the first time reading, instead of rushing it and having to go over it again and again. And to keep doing a bunch of practice questions so you get what's considered the main idea, the topic, the theme, etc.

I just realized, I can probably go to a tutor at my college. I'm taking it again next week. So I hope to God I do better.
