Re: hi

I've been working with alzheimer and other forms of dementia in LTC since I graduated 9 years ago. Love it soooooooooooooo much but sure can be stressful.

Oh, yea being "just a LPN" is so very frustrating. Last fall I answered the phone at work and the lady(?) on the other end said she was so and so calling from the Dr's office and wanted to speak with so and so's nurse. I said I was that person's nurse and she said "are you a LPN or RN?"

I replied that I am a LPN and she said "oh, well then I can't give you this order I can only give it to a RN." I was furious, floored and so insulted. However 2 good things came from this experience

1. She has no idea of the names I called her

2. I still have a job in spite of my big mouth.

I just really can't take it anymore!!!!

My superiors treat me with much respect but there are others that make it so blatant it makes me sick.

In the process of trying to secure financing and then back to school to get my RN. If it kills me I'm gonna do it.

The opportunities just are not there for LPN's. Hospital, LTC, Dr's office. That really seems to be about it. Those are all wonderful positions but I need more $$ ( inspite of the fact that it won't be that much more $$) I also want the option of Mon-Fri, NO on-call, holidays only if I want and the many many many opportunities that are out here, one of the reasons I went into nursing to begin with!!!

I want so very much to get into travel nursing but there are few agencies out there that offer LPN/LTC opportunites. I've no hospital experience and love what I do anyway soooooo.

Here's to the future.

Never refer to yourself as "just a LPN." You are just as important as any other member of your healthcare team. Different states have different scopes of practice. Maybe some of the people in your area need to be educated!!!
