i, too, am interested in re-entering the nursing field after a long while of being away from it. i have been searching for jobs, to see what's out there and have enrolled in a nurse refresher program. i am currently reading and studying material that is part of the program. right now, i feel a little pressured. i have spoken with someone in the nursing field- in an administrative position. she was very straight with me in the information that she provided. when i told her about the nurse refresher program, i was asked if it had a clinical component... i responded with if i do well in the program (it's 6 weeks long- 2 days a week) and i get a recommendation from the instructor, then i can pay and participate in a preceptorship the following quarter that it's offered. the pressure comes from the fact that i could be considered a new grad (less than 6 months experience). the person that i spoke with had mentioned that it's tough for new grads to get a job- due to economy etc.- and if i do not get that preceptorship, i would be considered worse off than a new grad when i apply. i'm not sure what i can do except to study when i can and make sure i excel in the program. if there's anyone out there who could give me info regarding their experiences, what they found helpful to show themselves as a good candidate for hire, etc. i have no one in the field that i can voice my concerns to and make sure i'm doing this right. have a great day
