Hello - I currently live/work in the Gettysburg area and I love it. But, we own property near Huntingdon/Raystown Lake area and are considering a move there at some point...and I wondered if anyone has worked at the local hospital or done any HH in that region? I guess even Altoona or State College isn't that far either. Our move probably won't be for a long time...but it would be nice to hear some input if anyone has any thanks!
AHHH...those days seem SO far off...especially with the forecast of impending freezing rain for tomorrow morning:o. I looked online at PA state jobs - there was a job for community health nurse. That is up my alley...I wonder if they will hold it for 10-15 yrs for me!
It would be great to live there and get off of work and go hit the lake for a hour or 2. I know from living near the beach for awhile that it's not an everyday thing that I would do, but it would be so relaxing to retire every evening to the mountains and know the lake was only about 20 min away!!!!
Ohh.. did you hear about our lake's newest "friend"..there is supposed to be a 40 ft long "thing" that is a vegetarian called Raystown Ray. He even has his own website (raystownray.com) - check it out. I have to admit I am a skeptic..but I got the willies once in awhile when I was in the water last summer...and found myself looking for BIG shadows in the water....

No worries, vegetarians don't eat mammals!
How about home health in Huntingdon? Any info or feedback on that? I do know that the local VNA there is based out of Altoona and has an office in Huntingdon. I love my local VNA that I am with now. My concerns -like I mentioned earlier- is the mountains/lanes you would need to navigate and especially in bad weather. Any good or bad things heard about it?

Well the Home Nursing Agency and Hospice care is good here; however the problem is the pay with the whole county. If you are accustomed to living a life style due to your income, it is hard to adjust to that. I love living here, born and raised. It is safe, the people know each other, and the winters here are mild, except for occasional ice/snow storm. Drive a SUV and you will have no problem.

What is a ballpark starting wage do you mind me asking...for HH, hospice, or hospital? We are thinking about it more so in quite a few years...closer to retirement - so if it is just part time or something the salary may not be as big of a deal as it would be now.
I just enjoy getting away and to the mountains on the weekends for now. Sometimes we just drive around and check out all the different roads and state game land. SO BEAUTIFUL!

I remember innertubing and waterskiing on the lake, going home sunburnt no matter how much sunscreen (called suntan lotion back in those days!) you wore. On the Fourth of July, we'd get there at 7 a.m. and stake out a spot, then have a breakfast picnic and play cards until we could go in the lake. Of course, good old PA summers, it never took too long!
