Looking for some insight on the nursing program at RVCC. Currently finishing my last pre-req for the RN program and looking to apply for Fall 2019, but am scared I will not get in the program. My GPA is 3.0 but unfortunately got a “C” in A&P1, going to be taking A&P2 this Summer 2019. And will be taking the TEAS this Summer/Fall as well. Anyone have any advice or insight on what they choose for the nursing program?

Sorry i can't help you.... hope RARITAN VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE student sees this post. Wishing you a bright future as nursing student.

You won’t be able to apply for Fall 2019 because the application periods have passed. I would suggest retaking AP1 in the fall and applying for early admission. I got in with a GPA of 3.4 and B’s in anatomy.

For early or late admission? Day/night?

Hi! I went through the RVCC ADN Night Program. I would agree with sheaem126. I took my pre-reqs with a GPA of 4.0 and still had to wait a year because all the spots were filled already. I don't know if it's as competitive as it was when I went, however, the following year I was given the first spot on the list.

@Robin Verde hello, thank you for the response. How long ago did you graduate? I’m applying for fall 2020 ADN night program. I didn’t get a seat because they were filled. Did you work full or part time during the program? Would you recommend this program?

Hi! I graduated in 2013 with an ADN. The school/professors recommend that you don't work full-time because of the amount of work involved. However, I had no choice but to work full-time because I needed health benefits that I couldn't get working part-time. It was extremely difficult. It's possible to do (I graduated with a 3.2 and passed the NCLEX on the first try) but I wouldn't recommend it. The program was great! The professors were very knowledgeable, I'm glad I went there.

The one thing you need to think about going forward and getting your BSN. After I got my ADN and passed the NCLEX and was a licensed nurse in NJ and PA, I went to a nursing job fair in and not one employer would accept my resume. I ended up enrolling in Univ of Texas at Arlington's RN to BSN program and got my BSN with a 3.68 GPA.

The only other thing I would add is some of my classmates got a part-time job in a hospital as PCAs WHILE they were in school, once they graduated and passed the NCLEX they were hired right away as RNs at their facility. My only regret is that I didn't do that.

Hope that helps!
