Rant: Gpa

I'm just really frustrated right now!

I've applied to UTHSC in San Antonio tx with a 3.4 prereq gpa. I pretty much know I won't get in. It just frustrates the hell out of me because I know I am worth more than a damn number. Plus, I talk to people that say, oh you should have gone to this school it would have been so much easier. And I think back at the 89-point-whatever's I earned, and asked the teacher if I could get an A because I was never late, never missed a class and was denied. Frustrates the hell out of me, esp when I meet BSN students that don't know there are sixty seconds in a minute. (I'm not even kidding about that- happened last semester)

I know this is juvenile, I just wished Nursing School's weren't looking for freaking brain surgeons. I went to hard schools, had hard profs with high expectations, and wasn't given any breaks, and it frustrates me that it comes down to digits.

I'm so close to saying screw it and getting a bio degree and going into PA or something else.

I'm not looking to get attacked, I know I probably ruffled feathers. I do realize everyone's situation is different blah blah blah and that everyone has a sob story.. so like I said Just a RANT!

I feel your pain... I, too, went to a difficult school (which maintains its standard of producing graduating classes with an average 2.7 cumulative GPA, despite primarily accepting applicants who were in the top 10% of their high school class, among other things, and having an extremely competitive acceptance rate)... and, even worse, I majored in electrical engineering, which was one of the hardest majors there (all of us in the major took 22 or more hours worth of classes per semester)... So sometimes I feel like I'm at a disadvantage in the whole application process as well... and I'm still freaked out over the whole application process at the moment (the earliest I'll find out whether or not one of the programs I applied to likes me is in mid-March), but...

Chin up! Keep trying! And you might want to consider applying to other nursing schools that look at the whole picture of the applicant instead of just their GPA. =)

Just think about it this way: once you get into a program, you'll be used to the structure of a very difficult and challenging program already. ;)

I hear ya, no flames from this end!

It is frustrating. I applied to my CC RN program which was taking 90 out of over 800 applicants. Was devestated when I did not get in, my GPA was down to a 3.5 due to taking advanced science labs, which I did to prepare for my eventual BSN. I was so mad to hear about high school applicants getting in b/c their GPA were so great! I didn't even apply to the BSN programs in the area, because they were taking only 30-40 applicants per year, and I knew a friend with a 4.0GPA who did not get in.

Good thing was, I got in via waiting list during the first two weeks of classes. Moral of the story? Apply to as many places as you can, and get on waiting lists if they offer them. I agree, some programs consider your interview and NET scores and stuff like A&P grade more than GPA. Good luck to you.

I know how you feel, (Baylor) I applied for Spring and was admitted, maybe (although I'm sure at this point you don't want to wait a minute longer, you should try applying for the spring semster as there are are fewer applicants. I fully agree that Nursing schools absolutely should interview - there are people in my class that I really cannot see as nurses and an interview would make it FAR more evident than a GPA. I know that Baylor is now going to be requiring University Level sciences (no community colleges), which I think is fair for those of us who endured Baylor's sciences and didn't cop out and hit MCC for 6 weeks and an easy A for A&P.

WISHING YOU NOTHING BUT LUCK
