Anyone out there doing carotid stents??

  1. I'd like to pick a few brains about this procedure. We've been told our Cath Lab is being offered as a venue for this. I have a fair idea what to expect but would appreciate anyone's rundown of a "typical" procedure: ppl involved and their responsibilities, meds, procedural steps . . . I'm obliged to you for any info you can/will provide. Thanks in advance. You can PM me or post here, as I check every day, sometimes more than once a day. -- Diana

we are just kicking off our program starting to do stents...we have the standing orders written but I have not seen a patient come through yet. I'll bring out protocol home and let you kknow what we have been inserviced on...

Jnette, we don't do ablations but do refer pts to have them done - send out the paperwork and rhythm strips/EKGs. The risk of bleeding would be less, I would think, because the sheath is in the femoral vein rather than the artery we use to do caths.

I think SOME folks who frequent the BB work at labs where they're performed, I just can't remember who.

Have you, being the computer genius that you are, done a google or yahoo search?? I'll guess you have, but you want to talk with ppl who work there, eh? I'm so sorry I can't help with that.

yes we do ablations and carotid stents.
stent protocol basically the same as any angio, except atropine is on deck, pacer pads are on pt. and attached to crash cart monitor.and nitro 100mcs on deck for spasm and the physican gives this.

ablations are done as CT guided or in the angio suite. again protocol is same as for angio. PCA for post pain control and overnite stay.
