I am an RN new to this forum. I am beginning radatiation therapy next week. I have stage !V colon cancer with lung mets. My tumor is right parasternal. What can I expect regarding my esophagus during treatments? I sure would appreciate you oncology nurse's expertise to help me out. Thanks so much!

First off, I want to say that you will be held in our thoughts and prayers as you undergo the radiation treatments.
I see that you started this thread a couple of days ago. You probably, hopefully by now, have a better understanding of what to expect with regards to the radiation treatments. And hopefully you've been given thoughtful and detailed follow-up care to these treatments.
I am not a radiation oncology expert. My back ground in oncology is heme-onc/bmt. Hopefully someone with more radiation oncology experience can better answer your concerns.

Thanks for your support Ted. I have concerns about my esophagus swelling. I have been told that may happen and that I would not be able to swallow or eat. Another nurse suggested that she has not seen that in her practice so I thought I should consult this forum in order to find out what other nurses have seen in their practice. Thanks so much!
