Hi,

Thank you in advance for your help!

For distance learning programs, are grades determined by tests? Where do you take tests?

Are papers a major part of grades?

Thanks!!

So far in my ADN program through excelsior it is all tests. You go to a testing center closest to you and test. You get your grade right then and it is sent to excelsior via computer by the testing center. Go to www.excelsior.edu I hope that will help you.

In the RN to BSN program I'm in the grades are determined primarily by papers. We have to do seven papers. But also there is a weekly quiz/assignment. Also "class participation" is important, adding meaningful discussion to the bulletin board and weekly chat session.

Spouse's Masters program was the same, primarily papers and bulletin board participation.

Good luck!

(ADN programs tend to be more test oriented because they are gearing you to pass NCLEX)

Most of the classes I've taken on-line are a mix of papers and tests. The tests are normally administered on-line and timed. I did have one math class that had a comprehensive final that I had to actually go to the college's testing center to take. I'm taking a statistics class this semester at a school that's 260 miles away (have to get creative about getting your education in Wyoming) - I sure hope there's no "show-up" kind of test in this class!
