I have been working as a CNA in a SNF for a few years, but I am starting to think about other options for my final summer as a nursing student. While I plan on applying for the typical student nurse extern/tech jobs, I'm actually in the minority of students who do not have a burning desire to work in acute care.
In fact, I would really like to do something away from the hospital! So far, I've found some interesting public health internships (nursing specific and non-nursing), a few research opportunities (again, some specifically nursing related and others not--I have a previous degree in biology), and some student nurse assistant jobs at a few camps.
So I am asking you all: what experiences have you had (or heard about) as a nursing student that weren't the typical hospital tech job? Do you know of any "outside the box" opportunities (specific programs or broader categories) that are available to nursing students? Or maybe just some ideas in general?
