Well, I got the long awaited "letter" in the mail today and I have been chosen as an "alternate candidate" for the Fall '06 nursing program. Oh well! I guess the waiting isn't over. Has anyone ever been in this situation or known of someone who was an "alternate candidate"?- what are the chances of actually getting a seat (this particular program has 120 seats available per year). Any feedback would help me feel a little more hopeful than I am feeling right now! Thanks!

My sister was an alternative candidate for a ADN program with 40 seats. She did gain acceptance, though, when another woman was accepted elsewhere and turned down her seat. She was notified of her acceptance 10 days before the start of the program.
Good luck!

Yes! I was wait listed, began taking classes to finish my Bio degree, and was then called to see if I was still interested in the spot.
Stay on the wait list, 120 people is a large class, I bet there will be plenty who do not take the offer. Good luck!

Don't be down - an alternate is better than a NO. I have a friend that was an alternate. Found out later that she was like #4 on the list, but she ended up getting in!! I can also tell you from my own experience that I am currently awaiting an answer from another campus. If I get accepted there, chances are I will decline the seat that I have already been accepted to - thus opening up an alternate seat....and I have 2 friends in the same boat. So right there is 3 alternate spots opened up in one class....if we all get in to the other campus. Don't lose hope!

i was an alternate, got in, then had to turn down my spot, because i became pregnant and knew i wouldn't be able to handle the nursing workload after the birth.

thanks for your input everyone! i did call the school this afternoon to find out where i was on the wait list, and they told me i was in the top 50 (out of 212 alternates). however, they would not disclose exactly where i was in the line up- is that lame or what?

My carpool buddy was an alternate...she found out a few weeks before we started that she was in. She had also got accepted to an ADN program, but took the alt position.
Good luck to ya!
