quick question

Specialties Psychiatric

I know this is allNURSES.com- and I'm working on the Nurse part, but I have a question about tech duties. I've got an interview tomorrow at a local hospital to work as a tech in the psychiatric unit until I get to my clinicals. I was just hoping to get some basic info. on what the job will most likely require of me and any other helpful information you might have regarding the position. THANKS SO MUCH!:loveya:

I also forgot to ask- Will they ask if I've ever been through any drug/psych treatment?- I'm in recovery and am not sure if I should disclose that info? I can see where it could help and where it could hurt.... thanks again

Our techs are very involved in pt care as far as leading groups, monitoring clients, handling problems before they become problems between clients and assisting with day to day activities. I think it is an interesting position and there are times when I wish I had more interaction with the clients like the techs do. Is this a substance abuse unit? Self disclosure is a very tricky area, imo, and I'm not real comfortable with it in most instances. Unless someone is very skilled I think it clouds things and runs the risk of becoming about you not them. Just my opinion though. Good luck.

The Substance abuse unit I work is very much like the one above.

Our techs also draw blood and transport patient as needed. Each shift has an HCT/EMT as well to help with medical emergencies. On the Acute ward they are do a lot of 1:1 with high risk patients.

We can't get though a shift without them!
