I am currently enrolled in a FNP program in Arkansas at ASU Jonesboro, and I was wondering about the level of satifaction you experence now that you are practicing as Family Nurse Practitioners? Also I would like to know about the biggest challeges that you have faced since moving into this type of practice. Thank you for your time and appreciate any input that you may have.

hello, jrod69,
nice to see another wooooooooo pig sooie!!
i am an ob-gyn np and fnp. i started out in ob, worked for a few years and realized the fnp was a much more marketable choice.
biggest challenge for me was acceptance by my physician collegues. this is a huge issue amongst all nps, as you well know. if you have not experienced this, you will.
i considered med school. was accepted and finally realized i had already made my choice. being an np. i have not looked back or regretted my decision.
once i "proved" myself with the physician-types, i had total autonomy. i still run into the occasional physician who thinks we are practicing medicine without a license. but, not nearly as much as before.
i do like this career choice. cannot imagine doing anything else, well, that is not completely true for i am a medical legal consultant and educator as well. but, being an np was the right choice for me.
