Questions for San Diego area nursing staff...

Published

My family and I are looking forward to relocating to the San Diego area from Las Vegas early next year. As I am beginning to plan for the move, there are a few questions I would greatly appreciate getting some insight into...any help is greatly apprecciated!!!

What are the typical shift differentials in the SD area hospitals? In Las Vegas, no matter which hospital system you work for, the "swing" differential is $1.50 per hour and Nights is $2.10 hourly. Weekends also pay an extra $1 per hour.

Is it true that anything over 8 hours is OT? If so, I guess that would explain why I'm seeing less 12 hour and more 8 hour shifts...though there still seems to be plenty of 12's out there...

Any personal recommendations for a particular system, and why? Does any one system have superior benefits over the others? I have been researching Scripps, Sharp and UCSD.

Any other advice???

Thank You!!!

Hi erpa2b!

I'm searching for work myself... it's hard out here, especially for us new grads. :) Are you experienced? You may have more luck.

Most of the major systems are 12-hours from what I've seen. There are a few units that I've floated on that have the nurses work 8 hours, but most work 12s. I know there are shift differentials for Sharp, but can't say how much they are for RNs.

I hope this helps a little, and that someone who knows more comes along.
