Questions about Nursing Careers

Nurses Career Support

Published

I love babies and I am seriously considering a job working in a hospital nursery. I know little to nothing about the types of jobs available. I have a High School Diploma. From what I have read online CNA training is something I want to look into. They only problem is I can't stand the sight of a lot of blood. I think drawing blood would be out of the question for me. I don't know what is involved for a CNA working in a hospital nursery or what other types of jobs are available. I had really thought of going to school to become a labor and delivery nurse or RN but I think my phobia of blood rules those out. Can anyone help me out or direct me to a web site with good information on the subject? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thanks. ;)

I don't think I have ever seen CNA's in hospital nurserys. I don't think they need them there. If you really are that phobic to blood then maybe healthcare isn't for you....though if you are not working in the ER you don't see blood that darn much. But yes, as an RN you would likely draw blood. But since you love kids how about being an LPN and working in a pediatrician's office? I worked at one and you see lots of babies and I never saw any blood! I often see peds offices hiring so it's likely you would find a position at some point. They are also more likely to hire LPN's in office settings than RN'S.
