The best source of information would be a Navy recruiter in your area. I can't speak specifically to the Navy's requirements. I can say that some kids grow out of exercise induced asthma, and I personally believe others are misdiagnosed because they are simply out of shape when they try to play sports. There will more than likely be a physical component to your Navy testing, where you will have to perform various exercises. As long as you're successful, I don't see why you would have a problem.

Hi FutureNurse,

Several of my friends were just commissioned into the Nurse Corps, and I was in the Reserves myself. I do not believe asthma is one of the criteria for non-admittance, however that may change, or already has changed. The main points for the military are your hearing and vision, and also psychiatric issues.

The physical training aspect can be challenging, however if you work your way up to their requirements, it's really not too bad. I went from someone who couldn't run a block to someone who was running two miles straight. Just start slow, always.

I agree with Ashley. I would speak with two offices: the Nurse Corps information office itself, and also an enlisted office. It's possible to join the Navy as enlisted and then be commissioned after graduation. There are pros and cons to each which are too long for this page.

Let us know what you hear, and I wish you all the best. It was absolutely the best 3 years of my life; I loved it!

yes thanks! i would either do Army or Navy and i have run cross country and i can run up to 11 miles without stopping and without an inhaler
